Gaetano Vinaccia
Violin maker
(c. 1759 – c. 1831)
Gaetano Vinaccia was the son of Antonio Vinaccia. He was active in the Rua Catalana, Naples, starting in 1779. Many plucked instruments from his work exist in museum collections. One cello, recorded by Vannes in the Strocchi collection, was made using Stradivari and Gagliano principles with fine materials and impressive light golden-brown varnish. The purfling was made of ebony, and the edges were narrow.
