(1825 – 1892)
Charles Eugène Gand was the son of Charles François Gand and a pupil of both his father and his brother, Charles Adolphe. He trained as a violinist under Baillot at the Paris Conservatoire from 1840 to 1842. He received the title of Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur in 1878, along with honors from the royal houses of Belgium and Spain. For the Paris Exhibition in 1878, he specially made 32 violins, 18 violas, 18 cellos, and 18 double basses, all labeled: Palais du Trocadero, 1878, with bows branded: GAND & BERNARDEL.
