William Ferguson
Violin maker
(b. c. 1770)
William Ferguson established TRTF Mary's Wynd and was likely a pupil of Matthew Hardie, employing a similar 'long Strad' pattern with a back length of 36 cm (141/8"). His work showed a strong connection to that of Blair and his cousin George Ferguson, though it was not as effective. Features included a narrow edge, soundholes with a slightly enlarged lower half, and a small scroll with a projecting boss. The varnish was orange-brown.
