Joseph Calot was born in Mirecourt and was a pupil of Clement in Paris. He worked in several towns across France, including Nimes, Besancon, Lorient, and again in Paris. From 1819, he was in Berne and formed a partnership with Augiere starting in 1830. Starting in 1832, he operated in the shop of Pressenda in Turin. He also made guitars.
