Antonio Guadagnini
Violin maker
(1831 – 1881)
Antonio Guadganini, son of Gaetano II, was one of the last makers of this Turin family and was responsible for expanding the commercial activity of the family workshop. The connection to workshops in Mirecourt and Paris, especially J.B. Vuillaume is particularly notable, as the Guadagninis traded extensively in French instruments. In fact, Antonio may have even commissioned works according to his specifications to be started in Mirecourt and finished in Turin. Most are recognizably French in appearance though numerous elements of their construction betray other influences. Antonio employed numerous apprentices and collaborators, including Enrico Marchetti, who probably in effect ran the workshop.
