Cornelius Kleynman
Violin maker
(c. 1670 – c. 1699)
Cornelius Kleynman was the step-son and probable pupil of cittern maker Franciscus Lupo. He was a contemporary of Hendrick Jacobs and an equally sophisticated early follower of Amati, although his surviving work was rare. His instruments featured closely set soundholes and extended corners, along with slender whalebone purfling and an elegant, concentric scroll. The varnish was a fine golden-brown of Italian quality.
