Jacques Wolfgang Hakkert was the son of Philipp Hakkert and trained in Mirecourt with Didier. He worked in Düsseldorf for L Otto and in Cologne for J. Lülsdorf, then briefly in London and Paris before establishing himself in Rotterdam in 1918. He was appointed luthier to the Amsterdam Conservatoire in 1913.
