David Furber
(1720 – 1787)
David Furber apprenticed traditionally in London to John Johnson. His signature appeared inside work that bore the brand of Longman & Co. The workmanship reflected the London trade tradition of the time, featuring a high-built Stainer model and a small, neatly rounded scroll with small chamfers. A thin brown varnish covered a stained-looking ground. The craftsmanship and finish were excellent. Labels remained unknown. Inscribed on the interior of the front was: 'Furber Maker / 4 Barclay St Red Lyon St. Clerkenwell. '.
