Born in Russia and studied as a violinist before moving to Israel in 1972. He studied violin making in Tel Aviv under Amnon Weinstein before enrolling in the violin making school in Cremona, Italy. Once graduated, he opened his own workshop in Israel before relocating to New York to work with Rene Morel at the Jacques Francais Violin Shop. In 1986 he opened his own New York workshop.
