Louis Dolling studied under Karl Gustav Otto in Leipzig. He later worked for Ernst Liebich in Breslau from 1877 to 1883. In 1884, he returned to Markneukirchen to assist his father. He produced commercial copies of Cremonese master works using spirit varnish.
