Settimo Melloni
Violin maker
(1902 – 1968)
Settimo Melloni (1902–1968) was an Italian violin maker associated with the modern Ferrarese school. He received his first instruction from Ettore Soffritti and later studied with Anselmo Gotti, working in the tradition established by Ferrara’s leading early 20th-century makers. Melloni produced chiefly violins, occasionally using a slightly enlarged model. His instruments reflect the influence of Soffritti in their disciplined construction and characteristic Ferrarese style. An early violin dated 1919 bears a label identifying him as a pupil of Ettore Soffritti and records its place of manufacture as Ro, near Ferrara.
