Charles Adolphe Gand
Violin maker
(1812 – 1866)
Son of Charles François Gand. Inherited the Gand business from his father, which he ran alone from 1845-55 and then with his younger brother, Charles Eugène, from 1855-66. Held the official title of Luthier de la Musique du Roi et du Conservatoire de Musique and later Luthier du Conservatoire Imperial de Musique. Made Chevalier de la Légion d'Honneur in 1862.
Known as a leading expert in fine violins and their restoration; violins by his hand are relatively rare.
