Antonio Casini
Violin maker
(c. 1620 – 1690)
Antonio Casini was a fine and interesting maker, although rare. His style was reminiscent of Giuseppe Guarneri 'filius Andreae', featuring a rich varnish but a slightly coarse finish. Although his apprenticeship remains unknown, he held the position of luthier to the ducal court of Modena, which would have provided him with knowledge of most of the principal makers of the period. Large pattern cellos were also known.
