Andrea Gisalberti (1682–1767) is the earliest, and quite possibly the only, known violin maker to have worked in Parma before Giovanni Battista Guadagnini's own arrival there around 1759 for a roughly twelve-year stay. Gisalberti died in 1767, overlapping with Guadagnini's Parma years but leaving no documented pupils or followers in the city; violin making there effectively lapsed again until later makers picked it up. A violin of c.1720 survives as a record of his work.
