Romeo Antoniazzi
Violin maker
(1862 – 1925)
Romeo Antoniazzi may have been taught by his older brother Riccardo, whom he did not equal as a craftsman. He led a chaotic life, working alternately for his brother, on his own, for Leandro Bisiach, and Monzino and Sons. The peak of his career dates from the end of the 19th century, but signed work from this period is rare, as his instruments were mostly for other firms. His later work is especially variable in quality, but has been extensively copied. Overall his approach has a spontaneous quality, and the varnish ranges from a pale yellow-orange to a dark brown.
