Willis M. Gault founded the Gault School for the Professional Making and Appreciation of Bowed Instruments in 1950. He was a pupil of David Struble. His work included Stradivari and Guarneri models, showcasing good workmanship. He used oil varnish in various shades. Over 600 instruments were made, encompassing all members of the violin family as well as various plucked and historical instruments. He crafted bows based on the Tourte model, branded as GAULT.
