Giuseppe Dollenz
                                    Violin maker
                                    (1832 – c. 1889)

Giuseppe Dollenz was the son and pupil of Giovanni Dollenz, a Trieste violin maker. More prolific than his father, he followed a similar style in the 19th century, although his varnish was somewhat inferior, being less transparent and light in color. His work exhibited much of the same character and traits, with a broad-grained softwood, possibly of local origin, often used for the table. While the overall workmanship is considered rather ordinary, certain details, particularly the scrolls and f-holes, are more refined than those of his father. Dollenz's cellos were noteworthy and followed a broad, almost Montagnana-like, pattern. Giovanni Dollenz
