Wilhelm Thomas Theodor Jaura was the eldest son of Wilhelm Josef Jaura, a guitar maker. He worked for W. T. Gutermann for 21 years before establishing himself independently in 1898. He served as a luthier to the Viennese court and was a respected member of the Violin Makers' Guild. He was recognized as the leading expert connoisseur in Vienna and received various decorations and medals. His finely crafted copies of classical Italian instruments featured good oil varnish. He was credited with creating 300 violins, 80 violas, and 150 cellos.
