Wilhelm Hermann Hammig

Wilhelm Hermann Hammig was a violin and bow maker, the son and pupil of Wilhelm August Hammig. From 1850, he worked for Carl Grimm in Berlin, later moving to Amsterdam before returning to Markneukirchen in 1864. He spent two years in Frankfurt from 1873 to 1875 before settling in Leipzig. There, he was appointed to the Conservatoire and the Gewandhaus Orchestra. In 1894, he opened a branch of his business on Potsdamstrasse in Berlin. He received awards in Dresden, Milan, Halle, and London. He possessed considerable expertise in old instruments and created violins based on classical models, showcasing very fine work. His instruments were branded 'W. H. Hammig', while his bows were marked HAMMIG LEIPZIG.
