Justin Amedée Derazey was the son and pupil of Honoré Derazey. He established his own workshop in Mirecourt around 1850 and succeeded Nicolas fils in 1884, after which his instruments featured the brand of J. Nicolas. His work, while generally of inferior quality compared to his father's, was characterized by a thinner varnish ...Read More and a less consistent finish, though he was nearly as prolific. He produced instruments modeled after Stradivari, utilizing first-class materials. His label remained in use, attached to commercial instruments crafted by Laberte in Mirecourt. He branded his instruments internally with 'JD', and his printed labels included: Justin Derazey, Luthier / élève de Honoré Derazey / fait à Mirecourt, 1862; Justs Derazey, Luthier / à Mirecourt.
