Richard Weichold
Bow maker
(1823 – 1902)
Richard Weichold was a violin and bow maker. He was the son of August Weichold and a pupil of Pfretzschner in Markneukirchen. He worked in Hamburg before settling in Dresden, where he was appointed luthier to the court. He enlarged his father's business but passed the management to L. Meyer in 1881. He was a prolific maker of both plucked and bowed instruments, producing many fine bows in various grades. He also developed techniques for string making.
