Pietro Antonio Dalla Costa
Violin maker
(c. 1697 – 1770)
Born in the town of Alba near the end of the 17th century, Pietro Antonio Dalla Costa spent most of his career outside of Venice in the town of Treviso. It is also possible that spent brief periods working in Venice and Mantua, but his labels make no mention of these places. Dalla Costa's work is exceedingly rare, and the few remaining examples suggest that he was a craftsman of superb ability. The influence of the Brothers Amati is evident, but his model is more robust, with larger f-holes.
