Albert Joseph Deblaye was a French violin maker and workshop proprietor active in Mirecourt. Born in Bouzemont, he trained in several Mirecourt workshops before spending three years with Gautier in Toulouse. He returned to Mirecourt around 1900 and established his own business, which grew from a small workshop into a substantial manufacture employing more than 50 workers by the mid-1920s.
...Read More />In 1923, Deblaye formed the firm A. Deblaye & H. Meunier, serving as its technical director. The workshop produced instruments in a broad range of grades, from inexpensive commercial examples to carefully finished artist and soloist models. The better instruments were generally based on Stradivari and Nicolas Vuillaume models and were often covered with an orange or shaded antiqued varnish. They are typically branded, signed and numbered. Deblaye also produced bows and trained a number of later Mirecourt makers. Read Less
