Nicolas Darche
(1815 – 1873)
Nicolas Darche was the brother of Joseph and Charles Francois Darche. He trained in Mirecourt and was employed by N. F. Vuillaume in Brussels. He established himself in Aix-La-Chapelle in 1841. His early work consisted of meticulous copies of classical models featuring finely textured varnish, but around 1860, he declined to produce a rather hurried commercial output, varnishing ready-made Mirecourt work with a fairly thin spirit concoction.
