Michael Dötsch
Violin maker
(1874 – 1940)
Michael Dötsch apprenticed to Michael Kohlbacher in Luby (Schönbach). He worked in various ateliers across Europe from 1894 to 1908. From 1909 to 1914, he settled with Lachman in Berlin before opening his own business in Wilmersdorf, Berlin in 1914. He received gold medals at Berlin in 1922. He was an uncanny copyist of Italian originals, especially Neapolitan models, which he observed very accurately and reproduced authentically. Many were already flying under false colours.
