Arthur Williams
Violin maker
(b. 1877)
Arthur Williams was a piano-tuner and repairer. He was taught violin making by Frank Howard. Active in Barnes, London, from 1924, he demonstrated very precise workmanship on models derived from Stradivari and Guarneri. His work featured distinctive arching with deeply worked edges. The pegbox sides were hollowed in the manner of Degani, and he used an orange-brown varnish.
