Max Millant was the brother of Roger Millant. He was the grandson and pupil of S. A. Deroux. He also trained with L. Mougenot, Jacquet, and Gand in Mirecourt, as well as with Harry Dykes in London. He established himself in Paris with his brother Roger Millant from 1923. He was a very refined maker who worked on classical Italian models. His instruments featured fine finishing and rich clear red-orange varnish. A quartet he created was awarded the first prize medal at the Cremona Exhibition in 1949, and it was also exhibited at The Hague Competition in the same year. Les Petits Fils de S. A.
