Henry Werro was the eldest son of Jean Werro. He studied at Markneukirchen under August Wunderlich from 1910 to 1914. He graduated with the highest honour from the Markneukirchen School of Violin Making and the violin makers guild. He worked for J. Altrichter in Frankfurt and then with August Meinel in Liestal, Switzerland. ...Read More After completing national service in Switzerland, he joined his father's shop. He invested significant time in travelling and gaining expertise. In 1927, he won a gold medal with his father at Geneva and assumed responsibility for the firm in 1932. He was appointed luthier to the conservatoire at Bern and served as president of the Swiss violin making association. He was a founder member of the International Society of Violinmakers. He won several awards at The Hague and exhibited at Cremona in 1949. He became an internationally respected authority on old instruments. He published monographs on the Stradivari 1721 'Lady Blunt' violin (Bern 1943) and the Guarneri del Gesù 'Ole Bull' (Bern, 1971), both of which are now highly collectable.
