Alfred Walter
Violin maker
(1898 – after 1945)
Alfred Walter was the son of a concert master and music shop owner in München Gladbach. He apprenticed in Markneukirchen from 1912 to 1915. Before returning to München Gladbach, he worked for Ziist in Zurich and Sprenger in St Gallen, Switzerland. Following his father's death in 1921, he took over the music shop business and added a violin workshop. His national service from 1942 ended with him as an Allied prisoner of war, resulting in the loss of the shop. He re-established himself in Krefeld, where he continued as a violin maker and repairer of good repute.
