Johannes Bernardus Cuypers
Violin maker
(1781 – 1840)
Johannes Bernardus Cuypers was the son of Johannes Theodorus Cuypers and the younger brother of Johannes Franciscus. He was a lesser maker compared to his father and brother, serving as an assistant in the family workshop. Some of his instruments were crafted independently and featured his own handwritten label or a signature applied directly on the wood of the back. A few of these instruments had a more conventional scroll than the typical oval form found on instruments from the Cuypers workshop and exhibited a thicker orange-brown varnish.
