Ludwig Glaesel I
Violin maker

Ludwig Glaesel was a member of the firm `Glaesel and Herwig' starting in 1867 and established his own workshop around 1889. He received several medals at international exhibitions and was a commercial manufacturer of instruments in graded qualities. His finest work was based on the Stradivari model, and he was recognized as the leading maker in the town during this period. In 1926, he created a five-stringed double bass and also produced some guitar-shaped violas. He authored several pamphlets on violin making in Vogtland, including Neue Erfindungen in Lichte rechtschaffener Beleuchtung und ewas vom unlauteren Wettbewerb; Markneukirchen und seite Zustande in der Zeit von 1804-1812, Deutsche-cremona and Der international Geigemnschwindel und die Errungenschaften im geigenbau der 19. Jahrh. Markneukirchen.
