Joseph Wagner
Violin maker
(1729 – 1781)
Joseph Wagner was appointed luthier to the court in 1774. His work from Tyrol featured a medium high arch and neat, precise craftsmanship. The soundholes were wide-set Stainer style, and the varnish had a slightly opaque yellow-brown hue. He used pear wood for the scrolls, which were nicely concentric but had a prominent eye.
