John William Owen
(1852 – 1933)
John William Owen was a trained engineer and a self-taught violin maker active from 1884. He was credited with approximately 200 violins, violas, cellos, and double basses, along with many bows, all made at his home, "Amati House. " His good oil varnish, of his own formula, ranged from yellow to deep red. A printed label featured his name within the outline of a soundhole.
