John Marshall
Violin maker
(c. 1730 – c. 1764)
One of the best English interpreters of Stainer was John Marshall, who worked in the 1750s-60s. His work is of solid craftsmanship and shows a more balanced approach than other Stainer copyists of his generation: archings are high but edges are not profoundly hollowed, and varnish is also usually of high quality. Many of his instruments have been falsely labeled as Italian.
