It has been suggested that he received ...Read More some training in France, but historical evidence on the subject is inconclusive. His early works, which date from before 1775 or so, are especially elegant, though his later work becomes more heavy. His personal style features upright heads that are flat on the back, and his instruments, of which many remain, produce a consistently good and powerful tone. Cuijpers' sons Johannes Francis and Johannes Bernard also took up violin making, with less distinguished results, and their involvement in the workshop may in part explain the robustness of his work after 1795.
