Jean Nicolas Lambert
Violin maker
(1708 – 1759)
Jean Nicolas Lambert was Master of the Luthiers' Guild from 1745 to 1746. His premises on rue Michel-le-Comte continued to operate after his death, managed by successors until 1789. He crafted all forms of stringed instruments, many of which are preserved in European museums. His violins, known as Amatise, featured fairly high arches and a yellow-orange clear varnish reminiscent of Guersan. They were often branded both internally and externally with `Lambert à Paris'.
