Christian Wilhelm Seidel
Violin maker
(1815 – after 1898)
Christian Wilhelm Seidel was the son of Johann Gottlob Seidel. He became a member of the violin makers guild in 1838. His work was neat and professional, featuring the Hopf model. Instruments were slightly narrow, with straight 'c' bouts, long upright soundholes, low arches, and flat, narrow edges. He also created a higher-arched Stainer pattern. The varnish was a hard yellow-brown, with some instruments having a superior red-brown coating. They were branded below the back button and internally with `*Seidel*', but not labelled or dated.
