Johann Adam Schönfelder was the son of Johann Schönfelder and became a master of the violin makers guild in 1729. He was regarded as the finest maker in his family. His instruments featured a Stainer model with golden-brown varnish and utilized high-quality materials, often incorporating one-piece backs with narrow flame.
