Jacob Fendt
Violin maker
(1815 – 1849)
Jacob Fendt was the third son of Bernhard S. Fendt (I). He was a pupil of his brother Bernhard (II). Later, he worked for J. A. Turner in Cornhill and for R. Davis in Coventry Street. George Hart noted that he was the best maker among the three sons of Bernhard (I), although rare examples with his own brand or label are somewhat crude. His life of poverty and illness, shared with the rest of the family, likely had a significant impact on his abilities. Occasionally, he branded his work beneath the fingerboard: 'J. Fendt'.
