J. Emil Zust

J. Emil Zust was a pupil of W. Marks in Munich and subsequently worked in Olten, Linz, Wiesbaden, Strasbourg, Kreuznach, and Hildersheim. He established himself independently in Zurich from 1893 and became the head of the Swiss violin makers guild in 1927. He was an important and influential maker and expert, crafting violins, violas, and cellos that were accurately modeled after Guarneri, featuring rich transparent varnish in appropriate shades. He also produced fine quality bows.
