J. Emil Zust was a pupil of W. Marks in Munich and subsequently worked in Olten, Linz, Wiesbaden, Strasbourg, Kreuznach, and Hildersheim. He established himself independently in Zurich from 1893 and became the head of the Swiss violin makers guild in 1927.
