Isaiah H. Arey produced neat work on classical models. His ideas about violin making developed through personal study and experimentation, leading to most of his patterns being of his own design. He crafted 86 violins and 37 guitars from old woods salvaged from demolished buildings. He also devised a new form of chinrest.
