Herman Gerard Duwaer
Violin maker

Herman Gerard Duwaer was the son of Pieter Duwaer, a piano maker. He began his career as a cabinet maker and registered as a violin maker in 1883. His work featured Stradivarian modeling. Initially, he worked on Lange Lauwerstraat in Utrecht before moving to Teelingstraat and finally to Oudherhof. He was not considered a very refined maker, but he displayed a strong individuality. His varnish was rather meager and alcohol-based.
