Giovanni Cavani was a pupil of Leandro Bisiach and an excellent craftsman who worked for the conservatories in Parma and Bologna. He made instruments primarily based on the Guarneri del Gesu model, with the last two violins crafted at the age of 84. These violins featured deep red varnish and gained a fine reputation for tone.
