Georges Defat
(b. 1900)
Georges Defat was the son and pupil of Émile Laurent. After apprenticing with P. Mangenot in Mirecourt, he worked in Paris starting in 1920, initially for Maucotel, before founding his own business on rue Biot in 1926. His instruments featured Stradivari, Guarneri, and personal models with red-brown shaded oil varnish. They exhibited accurate, professional workmanship. He branded his work as `G. Defat à Paris'.
