George Hatton Buckman
(1845 – 1920)
George Hatton Buckman was a self-taught maker and violinist from 1880. He learned his technique from Heron-Allen and received encouragement and assistance from Chanot. At his home, 'Hazlemere' in Kearsney, near Dover, he made about 50 violins based on Stradivari and Guarneri models, along with a few violas and cellos. Some instruments were completed after his death by his friend Alfred Dixon. He was highly regarded during his lifetime.
