Nicolas Caussin
Violin maker
(1818 – 1889)
Nicolas Caussin was the elder son of François Caussin and worked initially in Neufchâteau with his father before spending a period in Paris, where he operated a business at Place de la Croix-Rouge until 1857. He later returned to Neufchâteau, specializing in varnish. Some of his later work was created for him by his nephew Collenot. He branded his instruments as 'Caussin Nicholas, fils', and one manuscript label noted: `made in the workshop of C. A. Miremont and varnished by Caussin in Neufchatel in 1877'.
