T. E. Purday partnered with Button and later with B. S. Fendt. Purday and Button succeeded Thompson at 75 St Paul's Churchyard, where they sold music scores. The partnership with Fendt began around 1846 at 50 St Paul's Churchyard, taking over the shop of Clementi & Co. Early instruments were often coarse trade work, frequently unpurfled, and many seemed to have been imported from Mirecourt, possibly later varnished by Fendt. Fendt himself produced first-quality instruments for the company. Late Clementi & Co. was active in 1838.
