François Caussin
Violin maker
(1794 – 1866)
François Caussin was a pupil of Gaillard in Mirecourt. In 1815, he established an atelier in his hometown, later moving to Neufchâteau after 1830. His work included finely crafted copies, often inspired by Amati. The varnish he used was of good quality, typically applied in a shaded 'antiqued' manner, though it was thin and not highly reflective. He also experimented with some unusual forms. He branded his work as 'Caussin'.
