Violin maker
(1864 – 1944)
Eugen Gärtner established his own workshop in Stuttgart in 1891 after studying under Sprenger in Stuttgart and Simoutre in Paris. He was appointed as the maker and repairer for the King of Württemberg. He was credited with over 500 violins, violas, and cellos and received various Exhibition medals. His work featured fine craftsmanship and materials, along with quality oil varnish. He branded his instruments with 'E. G. ' and used printed labels that read: Eugen Gärtner / Atelier für Geigenbau / Stuttgart, fec. 1895; Eugen Gärtner / Stuttgart; and Eugen Gärtner / Atelier für Kunstgeigenbau / Hgl: Württby Hof-Geigenbauer / Fürstl: Hohenzoll Hoflieferant / fecit 1900, Stuttgart.
