Son of Carlo's brother Giovanni, Genuzio (1905-1996) lost his father at age five and apprenticed with his uncle Carlo in both carpentry and violin making. His real breakthrough came through a collaboration with Giuseppe (Joseph) Settin, a New York-based maker-dealer, which intensified after the war and made his instruments far more common in America than in Europe; he continued making, part-time, into his late eighties, the last professional Carletti maker, dying in 1996 aged ninety-one.
